Advanced Energy Expands Integrated Systems Strategy Through Exclusive Distribution Agreement

Fort Collins, Colorado (June 28, 2000)-Advanced Energy Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: AEIS) has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Berkeley Process Control, Inc. of Richmond, California, a manufacturer of integrated motion and machine control technologies.

Berkeley Process has developed a powerful real time control system that is efficient, reliable and scalable. It can control virtually all servo motor-driven subsystems, using a low-cost, high-speed Ethernet or similar network for smoothly coordinated data flow, enabling automated data analysis. This basic, robust architecture can be expanded beyond motion control to bring the same benefits to the entire machine layer of a process tool. The system is coupled with a development environment that greatly reduces the time and cost to design, implement and verify a complete solution.

"This new partnership is an important element of our integrated systems strategy, enabling our OEM customers to rapidly bring robust, accessible, and innovative products to market, and further broadens our product offering," said Doug Schatz, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Advanced Energy. "We will be able to leverage our existing relationship with software provider, Symphony Systems, to maximize the potential of Berkeley's hardware and network platform. We believe our customers will benefit through productivity improvements from the synergies these relationships create," added Mr. Schatz.

Paul Sagues, President of Berkeley Process Control, said, "Advanced Energy provides leading technology in many critical process components. This leadership and commitment to customers makes them the ideal distribution partner for our new product family targeting the semiconductor equipment industry."
