Advanced Energy Acquires Symphony Systems' Technology

Fort Collins, Colorado (April 2, 2002)—Advanced Energy Industries (Nasdaq: AEIS) announced today that it now has ownership of Symphony Systems’ technology as part of a settlement of Advanced Energy’s secured claims on the technology. Symphony effectively ceased operations in February 2002. In addition to obtaining Symphony’s technology and related assets, Advanced Energy has hired Symphony’s key employees.

Symphony’s technology includes the Equipment Productivity Manager (EPMÔ), a network-based, open-architecture software solution for the semiconductor and semiconductor equipment industries. Symphony’s EPM(tm) suite is a comprehensive offering that provides network connectivity, web-based automated data collection, a high-performance, real-time database for time-series parametric data, and data analysis application.

With installations at leading OEMs, top-tier fabs, and applications partners, the Symphony system has proven itself as a leading tool connectivity and data management solution for applications such as tool health monitoring, e-diagnostics, and advanced process control. Advanced Energy will leverage the Symphony product line within the emerging equipment productivity software space, as well as use it to broaden Advanced Energy 's own application product line and improve time to market of application offerings.

“Symphony’s technology is an important part of our Convergent Technologies strategy of providing customers with integrated solutions to maximize production efficiency and equipment value,” said Doug Schatz, chairman and chief executive officer of Advanced Energy. “Our customers have been particularly pleased with the ease and speed with which the Symphony system connects to new tools. They have also been impressed with the architecture and scalability of the system,” added Mr. Schatz.
