Advanced Energy Names Sales and Marketing VP

March 5, 1999 — Advanced Energy Industries, Inc. (AE), has named Joseph Monkowski senior vice president of sales and marketing. In announcing the appointment, AE’s Chairman Douglas S. Schatz noted, “We’re pleased to have someone with Joe’s breadth of experience in the plasma industry. His proven track record makes him a key contributor to the company’s goal of continually increasing our focus on the specific needs of our global customers.”

 

Monkowski joined AE with the October 1998, merger of AE and RF Power Products (RFPP), where he was senior vice president and general manager of the Electronic Technology business group. Prior to RFPP, Monkowski served as president of the instruments group for Pacific Scientific Company (Newport Beach, Calif.). Prior to that position, he held the positions of vice president and general manager for Photon Dynamics, Inc. (Milpitas, Calif.), and executive vice president and chief technical officer for Lam Research Corporation (Fremont, Calif.). He also co-founded and served as chairman and president of Monkowski-Rhine, Inc., in San Diego.

Monkowski received bachelor of science, master of science, and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Penn State University, where he taught as a professor early in his career. He also holds a master of science degree in material sciences from Penn State, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Nijmegen in The Netherlands.
